The Key LIMS Features and Functionality You Need to Improve Laboratory Operations
Description:
Today’s LIMS are multi-dimensional, improving processes fororganizations across a variety of industries, with functionality that extends beyond sample management, results entry, and reporting. LIMS allow organizations to streamline processes, improve productivity, and reduce overhead costs, thereby increasing revenue. In addition to the LIMS, many vendors offer enhancements, further extending the functionality and benefits to lab operations.
Integration with instrumentation and software solutions is an opportunity for organizations to streamline their workflows, minimize redundant data entry and facilitate seamless sharing of information.
Mobile functionality allows field personnel away from the laboratory bench to log sample and result information, add new samples on the fly, and create an electronic chain of custody (COC). Data is then synchronized back to the LIMS in real time via a cellular data or Wi-Fi connection, eliminating paper forms.
Web-accessible customer portals allow clients to access sample status, and view results and reports. Additionally, Web portals may offer the ability to generate sample requests with accompanying labels and COC forms for shipment the laboratory. This decreases disruption of the daily laboratory work processes, and allows laboratory staff to focus on revenue generating activities.
Laboratory environmental monitoring provides the capability to collect temperature, light, humidity, and pressure reading automatically, and is ideal for organizations where the environment may affect processes or instruments.
Regulatory compliance takes on many forms, but there are similarities in some of the fundamental aspects, and many of the features discussed will provide labs with the functionality needed to support compliance.
This presentation will examine these and other aspects of the LIMS and its enhancement functionality, and discuss leveraging these features to improve organizational processes and increase revenue
